Malashock Dance Presents Hidden Agendas

| April 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

Let Me Into Your Skin by Michael Mizerany.

Join Malashock Dance on May 11–13, 2012 for Hidden Agendas, an evening of personal, intimate and revealing dance works exploring emotional manipulation, physical longing, and secret rendezvous.
Hidden Agendas will include the premiere of In the Dark by renowned choreographer and Malashock Dance’s Artistic Director John Malashock. In this new work, Malashock continues his development of compelling characters in this edgy series of chance meetings in the shadowy world of the mind. The spring show will also feature an award-winning, brazenly audacious and wry dance work about male self-indulgence and gratification called Bump in the Road. It was originally created by Michael Mizerany, associate artistic director at Malashock Dance, who was awarded the 1996 Lester Horton Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance for this unabashedly bold and undeniably risky piece. It will be performed by Malashock Dance’s Nicholas Strasburg, who will step into role of the gyrating exhibitionist.

After a one-year hiatus, Mizerany returns to the stage to perform in one of John Malashock’s signature duets from Window Dressers.  This abstractly voyeuristic piece passionately portrays the boundless sweep of human beauty and sorrow.

Laura Dasi performs Tango in the Air.

Two guest choreographers will also be featured. International improvisational artist Lydia Zimmer will present the San Diego premiere of Memoriae, a work that examines the qualities that make us human. Aerial artist Laura Dasi will showcase Tango in the Air, a story of longing, passion and desire.

A special Mother’s Day pre-performance reception will take place on Sunday, May 13. Appetizers, wine and desserts will be offered prior to the 7 p.m. performance. Advance tickets for this special Mother’s Day event is $25; Day-of-Show: $30.

Malashock Dance Studio is located at 2650 Truxtun Road, Studio 200, in San Diego. For information, call (619) 260-1622 or visit www.malashockdance.org.
