Councilmember Zapf thanks Walmart for Linda Vista tradition

A big check was provided by Walmart staff to city staff, left to right are Steve Markey, Walmart market manager; Randy Harmon, Walmart store manager; Doug Beckham, chair of Linda Vista Park and Recreation board; San Diego City Councilmember Lorie Zapf, District 6; and Tom Cleary, chair of Linda Vista Planning Group.

Walmart presented a check to Councilmember Lorie Zapf and the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department to kick off the 2012 Portable Pool program and free children’s swimming lessons at the Linda Vista Recreation Center. Portable pools have been a San Diego tradition since 1968, but the recent budget cuts have forced cuts to the program across the City. Thanks to a generous $6,775 donation from Walmart, the Linda Vista Portable Pool program will continue in 2012. The grant funds the pool for three weeks and provides free swim lessons for San Diego children.

The Linda Vista Recreation Centers located at 7064 Levant Street. Additional donations are appreciated.
