"The Flap of a Bee's Wing" by Josie Rodriguez

Josie Rodriguez, a visual artist who uses melted beeswax, pigments, damar and other natural elements to create her paintings and sculptures, has an exhibition, Luminous Layers, that and will be on display at the San Diego International Airport through March 2012, Terminal 2 East, pre-security. A reception is scheduled for November 3, 2011.

Inspired by the messy, visceral, and spontaneous character of encaustic art, Rodriguez creates pieces that speak to her relationship to nature and to the colonies of bees that she considers collaborators in her process. Through this body of work, Rodriguez explores themes of love, loss, growth, strength and metamorphosis as they relate to the natural world.
