San Diego, CA- Kroc Kids Junior Theatre is taking a huge leap by performing their version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS on May 24 and 25 at 7:00 p.m., and May 26 at 2:00 p.m.at The Joan Kroc Theatre.

The team at the Kroc has “raised the barre” in a notably ambitious move by taking on one of Broadway’s longest running shows, CATS by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and adapted for Kroc Kids. Past Kroc Kids productions have included The Little Mermaid Junior.

“This wonderful organization deserves a great Theatre program. We hope that this production of CATS will ignite an interest from the student body and community about what’s possible at Kroc Kids Junior Theatre!” – Director Laura Hodge.

The professionally acclaimed production team are: Director and Choreographer – Laura Hodge, Musical Director – David Kamatoy, Assistant Choreographer – John Diaz, Scenic and Costume Design – Jason McIntyre, Light Design – Todd Adams, Sound Design – Kevin Maeds, and numerous supporting staff and volunteers.

The production team began with a series of dance master classes in mid February, followed by auditions, and callbacks. Rehearsals commenced on February 26. The cast features youth from nearby communities. Some are first timers and others are experienced performers, all making up this vibrant “Jellicle” cast.

The Joan Kroc Center, run by the Salvation Army, is an awesome facility that houses everything from a gym and ice skating rink to the beautiful Joan Kroc theatre. One of the programs at the Kroc is a youth theatre program for young people ages 8-22 and has been in operation since the center opened in 2002.

The Salvation Army Kroc Center’s Kroc Kids Junior Theatre Company presents Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS! Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Elliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats, at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside Layer. Tickets are currently available at the Education Guest Service desk for just $12 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.
