Seven Oak Park Residents Displaced Following Structure Fire
San Diego, CA – A structure fire at an Oak Park residence last night caused smoke damage that forced seven residents to evacuate. The San Diego Fire Department was called to the house in the 5000 block of Elm St. where firefighters found a blaze in the detached garage. The incident was reported around 10:00 pm, with at least two trucks and an ambulance responding. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
“We had a report of a structure fire,” Battalion 1 Chief Ed Kinnamon explained. “They made an aggressive attack to knock the fire down and contain it to the garage.” Chief Kinnamon also reported that seven residents, four adults and three children, would be displaced because of smoke damage to the house from the fire. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the house or other nearby structures.
“The crews did a good, aggressive job to determine the location of the fire and actually put it out before it got into the walls and attic of the house,” Chief Kinnamon told reporters. The rapid response by the Fire Department was due in part to the home’s proximity to Station 26, on 54th St. near College Grove Dr. It also reflects the city’s efforts to locate stations in such a way as to keep response times to a minimum.
