Día de Los Muertos Celebration in Old Town San Diego takes place from Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3, 2024. This year’s event promises an experience filled with culture, tradition, and fun for the entire family. Explore over 40 unique altars (ofrendas). Take a stroll through the heart of Old Town and immerse yourself in the beauty of more than 40 uniquely crafted altars. Each ofrenda honors loved ones who have passed, showcasing stunning artistry and heartfelt traditions.

Family-friendly activities will take place throughout Old Town San Diego. Head to Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, where you’ll find amazing art, hands-on activities, and educational opportunities to learn more about the rich traditions of Día de Los Muertos.

Live music and entertainment will be abundant in Old Town San Diego. As the vibrant celebration unfolds, the air will be filled with the enchanting melodies of live music. Prepare to be entertained by a lineup of talented musicians and dancers, each adding their unique flavor to this culturally rich event all weekend long.

Shop for treasures on the streets of Old Town and at the various local stores. Explore a fabulous street market brimming with unique treasures, artisan crafts, and special keepsakes that capture the spirit of the celebration. Special Events during the weekend including the following:

? Movie Night takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 1. Watch a free screening of the beloved film “The Book of Life” under the stars at the Plaza de Armas (Old Town San Diego State Historic Park).

? The Annual Candlelit Procession takes place at sunset/6 p.m., Saturday, November 2, join our annual candlelit procession, a beautiful tradition that illuminates the streets of Old Town as we honor those who have passed. The procession starts at Immaculate Conception Church, located at 2540 San Diego Avenue. The event includes blessings and traditional dances by Danza Azteca Atlachinolli.  The procession will travel down San Diego Avenue to El Campo Santo Cemetery.

? Embrace the iconic imagery of Día de Los Muertos by entering the Catrina Contest. Show off your creative attire for a chance to win prizes. To enter the contest, register at the event stage in the Plaza of the State Park on Sunday, November 3.

October Offers a Spectacular Día de Los Muertos Experience

This October, Old Town San Diego transforms into a vibrant and colorful celebration of life and remembrance for Día de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.
