Previous Mayor of Coronado, Richard Bailey, Hosts the Golden Awards
Nominations for the San Diego County Taxpayer’s Association (SDCTA) 29th Annual Goldens, which features both the Golden Watchdog and Golden Fleece Award, are now being reviewed to showcase the best and worst uses of your tax dollars by local governments and school districts.
The final winners will be presented at the 2025 Goldens, which takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 12 at Riverwalk Golf Club, located at1150 Fashion Valley Road, San Diego, CA 92108.
Richard Bailey, who served as mayor of Coronado from 2016 through 2024, will host the event. In addition to public service, Bailey is a small business owner and outdoor enthusiast. One of his recent, major accomplishments is that he summited Mount Everest, completing a childhood dream to reach the top of the world. With an elevation of 29,032 feet, less than 8,000 people have accomplished this goal which takes two months to climb.
The Golden Awards will be different from years past with live entertainment and social time. As guests arrive and prior to the awards ceremony, Candace LiVoldsi Valentine, harpist, will perform from a “popular” repertoire of songs. One of Valentine’s memorable accomplishments was to be on country music legend Merle Haggard’s album “If I Could Only Fly”. She recalled Haggard leaning over the mixing board in the studio, his weather-beaten hat casting a deep shadow on his face.
Guests of the Golden Awards can meet and mingle while enjoying heavy Hors d’oeuvres and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments with a hosted bar.
Sponsors to date include Qualcomm and General Atomics Aeronautics.
