Two Days and Three Nights of Magical Lights and Entertainment
The Little Saigon Foundation (a local non-profit), and the community of City Heights are proud to announce the 4th annual Lantern Festival that will take place from 5 to 11 p.m., Friday, August 17 and10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19 at Hoover High School at 4474 El Cajon Boulevard.
This is an exciting cultural and educational event for all ages. The Lantern Festival is an ancient Vietnamese tradition that dates back more than 2,000 years ago to the legends of the Han Dynasty. Imagine over 6,000 silk lanterns brightening up El Cajon Boulevard in the evening while thousands of visitors enjoy carnival rides and games, non-stop multi-cultural entertainment, and traditional Vietnamese food provided by a cornucopia of vendors from around San Diego.
This multicultural family event is part of Little Saigon Foundation’s ongoing effort to revitalize the communities in City Heights through cultural and economic empowerment. This large-scale festival is a project that will unite many key stakeholders in the community including residents, businesses, government agencies, local non-profits, students, volunteers and attendees from all walks of life. The overarching goal of the Foundation for hosting such an event is to facilitate tourism and encourage investment in redevelopment of the area.
The Lantern Festival, with its low admission fee of only $5 (adult) and $3 (children) is aimed at introducing San Diegan as well as tourists to the uniqueness of the Vietnamese culture via the Lanterns while serving the previously underserved population of City Heights. It is a fantastic and inexpensive experience broadening local San Diegans understanding of their paradise home city.
Vietnamese arts and culture will be showcased at the Lantern Festival.
