Come Join the Summer Fun at Liberty Station
Summer may be coming to an end, but the fun in the sun is far from over. Arts District Liberty Station is the perfect place to soak up these last few days of Summer with friends and family. From outdoor live music, interactive free classes and more, San Diego’s largest Arts & Cultural District is helping you fill up the rest of your summer calendar.
Art District Summer Music Series
Get ready for the return of Arts District Summer Music Series from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, August 13 on the North Promenade. Bringing old-school country with a cosmic west coast twist to Arts District, Kimmi Bitter and The Westside Twang will transport guests on a retro journey to the 60s with nostalgic original songs. The singer-songwriter’s collection gravitates towards traditional country, reverbed out western riffs, old-fashioned rock-n-roll, and hints of California psychedelia.
Attendees will be able to dance to the beat of the music, bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the free concert, or sip on cold beverages from Stone Brewing’s outdoor patio area.
Master Class Series
Grab your dancing shoes, because The Rosin Box Project and San Diego Dance Theatre will be collaborating on a free Master Class Series for students this month on Saturday, August 26 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Taught by world-renowned professional artists, the entire series will feature four public classes hosted at San Diego Dance Theater’s Light Box Theater, located at 2590 Truxtun Road, Suite 205. Each class offers the opportunity to connect with a different facet of the contemporary dance world and brings new perspective to the greater community. This month’s class will be taught by Rande Dorn. The classes are free and open to the public, with pre-registration strongly encouraged as classes may fill up quickly. This program was made possible through a collaborative grant awarded by NTC Foundation with generous support from Bank of Southern California, RiverRock Real Estate Group and The Parker Foundation.
Sing for Home Piano
From the Bronx to Beirut, the Sing for Hope Pianos program is a global arts initiative that creates artist-designed pianos; places them in public spaces for anyone and everyone to enjoy; then transports and activates them year-round in permanent homes including schools, hospitals, transit hubs, refugee camps, and community-based organizations. This month, one piano from the program will be calling Arts District home. Local student, Makena Stumpo, and artist, Liam Koett, partnered to create a Sing for Hope Piano which will be on display at Arts District from July 29 through August 21. Guests are invited to enjoy this work of art and even play some music when visiting its location near Building 202 on Dewey Road.
