Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce Announces Construction of New Gateway Sign

The Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the commencement of construction for a new gateway sign, a landmark project designed to welcome visitors and celebrate the rich history of Old Town San Diego. This project represents a significant enhancement to the area’s cultural and historical landscape, aiming to attract more visitors and support local businesses.

The new gateway sign will be strategically located in the heart of Old Town on San Diego Avenue near Twiggs Street, offering a warm and inviting welcome to the millions of visitors who explore this historic neighborhood each year. The sign’s design will reflect the unique architectural and cultural heritage of Old Town San Diego, incorporating elements that pay homage to its Kumeyaay, Mexican, and early American roots.

The project has been made possible through the generous support and collaboration of local businesses, residents, the City of San Diego, and the County of San Diego. The Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with community stakeholders to ensure the sign’s design and placement enhance the area’s aesthetic and historical integrity.

“The new gateway sign is more than just a welcoming symbol,” said Fred Grand, president of the Old Town San Diego Chamber of Commerce. “It represents our commitment to preserving the heritage of Old Town while promoting economic growth and tourism. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our community and local businesses.” Construction and unveiling construction are set to begin in July 2024, with an anticipated completion date in

Fall 2024. A grand unveiling ceremony is planned to mark the occasion and for the community to come together and celebrate this new landmark. Integrated Signs & Fabrication was chosen to design, build and place the sign.
