Mission Hills Heritage Launches Podcast Walking Tour Series
Mission Hills Heritage is pleased to announce a series of podcast walking tours of Mission Hills. With social distancing and other health measures in place due to the pandemic, the group has decided to place a hold on this year’s live events and instead offer a series of free, on-demand podcast walking tours focusing on the history and architecture of Mission Hills.
The first walking tour will debut on Friday, August 14, 2020 and will focus on master builder Nathan Rigdon. Those familiar with Mission Hills will recognize the simple but elegant four-square Craftsman and Prairie style homes with prominent front porches and low cobblestone walls that appear on many neighborhood streets. Often, such homes are the handiwork of minister-turned-builder, Nathan Rigdon. During the ten years he lived in this community, Rigdon built scores of homes and several commercial buildings, most of which still stand. Nathan Rigdon’s thoughtfully planned homes are emblematic of Mission Hills and have helped form the character of this neighborhood for over a century. The tour includes the fascinating backstory of Nathan Rigdon and explores the progression of Rigdon’s work in this neighborhood.
Another walking tour focusing on Craftsman architecture in Mission Hills will launch in September 2020 and a third walking tour exploring the churches and cemeteries of Mission Hills will be ready by October 2020, in time for Halloween.
The podcast tours will be available for download on the Mission Hills Heritage website, www.MissionHillsHeritage.org. We hope you enjoy the tours and learn more about the architecture and heritage of the Mission Hills neighborhood.
