The historical drama “Bel Ami,” based on the 1885 novel of the same name by Guy de Maupassant, is the story of Georges Duroy (Robert Pattinson), who travels through 1890s Paris. From cockroach-ridden garrets to opulent salons, he uses his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties. In a world where politics and media jostle for influence and where sex is power and celebrity an obsession, Maupassant’s savagely ironic tale resonates with many modern parallels to our own times. Also starring Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci,

“Bel Ami” is directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, and is 102 minutes long, Rated R, and opens June 8, 2012 at Landmark’s Hillcrest Cinemas. For information and times, call (619) 819-0236, or visit  Film times and dates are subject to change.
