“Coming Home to Famiglia: The Works of John Asaro”
“Coming Home to Famiglia: The Works of John Asaro” show is going to be at Meyer Fine Art from July 9 to August 1.
Little Italy’s Meyer Fine Art Gallery will be hosting a neighborhood fundraising art exhibition, “Coming Home to Famiglia: The Works of John Asaro” from July 9 through August 1 to benefit the Little Italy Association’s Piazza Famiglia project—a 10,000 square foot piazza on Date Street in downtown Little Italy that will become the new “heart” of the neighborhood. This art exhibition is more than just an art show—it’s an example of how a whole community—local businesses, residents, community members and more—are working together to raise funds to improve and beautify the neighborhood. The piazza will create a large public space for visitors and residents, new homes, approximately 16,600 square feet of restaurant and commercial space and an underground parking garage. Fifty percent of sales from the art exhibition are going to be donated to the Little Italy Association’s Piazza Famiglia fund.
The art exhibition will feature the work of the San Diego local Italian artist, John Asaro, who grew up in Little Italy. Asaro’s family came to Little Italy from the boot shaped country and created their foundation in Little Italy, San Diego. Asaro wanted to find a way to give back to community that accepted him, so himself and Meyer Fine Art have decided to host this art exhibition. Asaro is currently focusing on creating 100 paintings for the art exhibition that are going to capture scenes from all over San Diego including Balboa Park, the harbor, Little Italy and more.
The “Coming Home to Famiglia: The Works of John Asaro” show is going to be at Meyer Fine Art from July 9 to August 1 with a special public viewing on Sunday, July 19 from 12- 4 p.m. that will give the public the opportunity to meet Asaro.
