A Victorian Christmas
Write Out Loud, an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading literature aloud for audiences of all ages, presents “A Victorian Christmas” at the Villa Montezuma Museum, located at 1925 K Street in Sherman Heights. Performances will take place at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Friday, December 14.
Take a break from the hectic pace of the holidays for a simpler and gentler holiday celebration for ages 7 and up. Step back in time with an afternoon of Victorian stories, poetry and music shared by some of your favorite Write Out Loud performers. Explore the real meaning of Christmas through humor, kindness and unexpected visitors in the night.
Cozy up for the afternoon in the beautiful Villa Montezuma. This historic Queen Anne Victorian was named “The Palace of the Arts,” by Jessie Shepard, the musician, spiritualist and author who designed it in 1887. With this beautiful backdrop, you will enjoy stories from the Victorian Era that you’ve likely never heard, including “The Snowman” by A.B. Cooper, “Dobsonian Christmas Gifts” and “The Candle in the Forest “by Temple Bailey. Performers include Rachael VanWormer, Brian Mackey, Veronica Murphy and Walter Ritter.
Write Out Loud Artistic Director, Veronica Murphy shared “For this holiday season, we are partnering, once again, with the Friends of Villa Montezuma – this time to provide our first matinee opportunity in many years. We are eager to bring these lesser known, but truly delightful, stories and songs of the Victorian age to life.”
Tickets are $30. Patrons can reserve tickets at https://writeoutloud.ticketspice.com/a-victorian-christmas or by calling 619-297-8953. Guests are advised that The Villa Montezuma is an historic building with no elevator.
