One of San Diego’s Oldest and Biggest Sales

The preacher says “Amen” and an hour later the church’s Friendship Hall and patio have been transformed into a 5000 square foot rummage sorting area.

For the next three days, men in a huge, rented Penske trucks, and several pick-up trucks fan out all over the county picking up “treasures” from homes of church members and their neighbors and delivering them to the church.

Early Thursday shoppers from all over San Diego County line up at the church’s patio gate. When the doors open at 9:00 a.m., the frenzy begins with people finding bargains too good to believe and charities benefiting with much needed financial support.

University Christian Church is located at 3900 Cleveland Avenue opposite the Hillcrest Post Office. Sale dates and times are: Thursday, August 2, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, August 4, 9:00 a.m. until Noon. Donations of sale items are accepted through Wednesday, August 1 at 5:00 p.m.

Beginning more than a half-century ago, this Rummage Sale has grown to become one of the largest in San Diego County. Sale proceeds have made it possible for the church to support both community and national non-profit organizations such as, Heifer Project International, Big Sister League, The Monarch School for homeless students, Education Project International, Uptown Faith Community Center, and Church World Service.

Other’s treasures become great gifts.
