Concetta Antico Unveils New Exhibition ‘at The Salon of Art Gallery
Acclaimed tetrachromatic artist Concetta Antico invites the public to step into a kaleidoscope of color and nostalgia with her latest exhibition, A Modern Muse, debuting Saturday, May 17 at the Salon of Art Gallery, located at 7655 Fay Avenue in La Jolla.
As a child of the ‘60s and ‘70s, Concetta draws inspiration from her earliest memories, transforming them into vivid visual stories through more than 25 original and existing works. The exhibition bursts with psychedelic color, stylized imagery, and themes of flower power and futurism, all painted in a palette only she can see — made possible by tetrachromacy, a rare condition that allows her to perceive over 100 million more distinct colors than those with regular vision.
“I grew up in a canary yellow room,” she shares. “I painted daisies on my record player, wore rainbow-colored Mary Quant nail polish, and glittered eyeshadow was just part of everyday life. I was a muse, even then.”
A Modern Muse reimagines that era with a fresh perspective, blending retro influence with a modern message of joy, peace, love and creativity. The exhibition also reflects the resurgence of mid-century design and culture, offering a nostalgic yet forward-thinking experience that celebrates individuality and imagination.
The VIP Opening Reception takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday May 17, inviting guests of all ages to dress in vintage attire, enjoy classic ‘60s and ‘70s music, and connect with art lovers in a lively, creative atmosphere. RSVP is required and free.
In support of her ongoing belief that art has the power to heal and uplift, five percent of all fine art sales from the event will be donated to Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.
