The San Diego Civic Youth Ballet (SDCYB), the resident classical ballet school of Balboa Park since 1945, presents the 4th Annual Fairy Tales in the Park at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18 at the historic Casa del Prado Theatre located in the cultural heart of Balboa Park at 1800 Village Place, San Diego, CA, 92102.

Fairy Tales in the Park is a whimsical, interactive dance event which engages both young audiences and families, introducing them to the art of ballet through familiar stories they know and love. This year’s event features excerpts from stories like “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Beauty & The Beast,” narrated by a professional storyteller and interpreted by our student dancers and guest artists; as well as an “enchanted forest” boasting a wishing well and costumed characters where our visitors can interact and delve deeper into the magic of Fairy Tales in the Park.

As in years past, all proceeds from Fairy Tales in the Park are used to fund a scholarship program for the upcoming academic year. During the 2011-2012 school year, SDCYB awarded over $18,000 in need-based scholarships, helping over 40 dancers and their families continue the dream of a classical ballet education.
