National Senior Tennis Tournament to be Played at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club

Tournament officials have announced seeded players for the United States Tennis Association National Women’s Senior Hard Court Championships scheduled for Monday, May 5 through Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, 2000 Spindrift Drive, La Jolla, CA, 92037.
   
Julie Thu of West Lake Hills, Texas is the top seed in the 50 and over singles division. She is a former touring tennis professional who achieved a career high No. 229 in the WTA Singles Rankings in July, 2000. The 49-yeaar-old Thu is currently ranked No. 2 in the International Tennis Federation Singles 50+ Rankings.
 
Dina McBride of Thousand Oaks, Calif., who captured the 50 and over singles title in 2022, is seeded No. 2. McBride is also the two-time defending 50 and over doubles champion.

A pair of talented Texans highlight the seeds in the 60 and over singles draw. Shelly Works of San Antonio is the No. 1 seed and Gayle Prejean of Dallas is seeded second. Works is ranked No. 15 in the current ITF Singles 60+ Rankings.
 
Andrea Barnes of Palo Alto, Calif., is the 70 and over top seed and Leslie Airola-Murveit of Portola Valley, Calif., is the No. 2 seed. Barnes reached the 70 and over singles final in last year’s tournament.
 
The top seed in the 80 and over singles division is Susan Kimball of Oak Bluffs, Mass., and Betty Wachob of Panama City, Fla., is seeded second. Defending 80 and over singles champion Carolynn Castell of Kirkland, Wash., is seeded third. Kimball is currently ranked No. 17 in the ITF Singles 80+ Rankings. In 2022, she was ranked No. 1 in the ITF Singles 75+ Rankings.

The USTA National Women’s Senior Hard Court Championships features top players from across the country in the 50, 60, 70, and 80 and over age divisions. Events include singles and doubles. USTA gold, silver or bronze balls will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers in all women’s events.

The USTA National Women’s Senior Hard Court Tennis Championships are part of the International Tennis Federation’s World Tennis Masters Tour, which provides a worldwide competitive circuit consisting of individual singles, doubles and mixed doubles events for each five-year age increment from 30+ to 90+.

The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club welcomes tennis enthusiasts to view the tournament and will  offer free admission to spectators each day of the event. Tournament attendees and spectators may dine on-site at the Club’s Snack Bar during the tournament. On-site parking is available for a nominal fee.

Colleen Clery Ferrell of San Diego is the No. 5 seed in the 60 and over singles division.
