“I am a passionate, driven, and committed individual, looking to open my own salon in the near future,” that’s according to hair stylist Kendall Schmidt. I was told of Schmidt’s craft from a fashion and hair guru, who told me that Schmidt is better than some professionals she’s seen in the business for years, “She just has an eye for hair.”

After hearing this I was very intrigued and was determined to learn firsthand what Schmidt brings to the locks of men and women. So I decided to interview her and receive some lock pampering that would suffice for my next article.

Schmidt is from San Diego and grew up focusing on sports and academics, but she always had a flare for up-dos and fashion forward styles. In middle school she was the go-to for school dances and special events. She taught herself up-dos and French braids and started practicing on friends. Her passion began to ignite when she started getting hired by friends and family through the East County school districts. While Kendall was attending Northern Arizona University she got her first set of clippers and continued with her natural talent and passion, cutting and styling hair for students.

“I will work in the corporate world for a while and maybe pursue hair later in life,” she thought to herself. However, in May of 2011 everything clicked, and her passion was no longer able to contain itself for only special occasions and events. She quickly claimed her title as hair stylist, “I set my goals and went after them.”

Professionally doing hair at Michael Nelson an Image Studio in La Mesa is where you will currently find Kendall Schmidt who turned her love of hair into her lifestyle. She is aspiring to open her own salon, which I believe she will. With her marketing degree and hair design profession intertwined it will make for a great business venture.

Schmidt is very outgoing and well represented at the salon where she works. She would love to get a bigger following and give you a haircut, color or up do for an upcoming event. If you’re interested in finding a small hair boutique with charm, then La Mesa’s Michael Nelson an Image Studio is that place to visit. The salon carries high end professional products and services without the expense of some downtown mobiles.
