San Diego’s Iconic Fiesta de Reyes Reopens for Residents and Visitors

San Diego’s Fiesta de Reyes in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park re-opened its gates on Sunday, May 24, and will be open for in-person dining, shopping, and entertainment from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Guests can expect enhanced safety features including more spacious outdoor seating in the Casa de Reyes restaurant, disposable menus, retrained safety-conscious staff, plexiglass shields at pay stations in the shops, directional signage to help maintain safe distancing for guests, hand-sanitizer stations throughout the plaza.

“We took this shutdown as a rare opportunity to do what we needed to do to come back stronger,” said Chuck Ross, president of Old Town Family Hospitality Corp, operators of Fiesta de Reyes.  “We wanted to make sure we didn’t lose any of the experience of Fiesta de Reyes, but we knew we would be opening up into a new world with new realities.  Along with implementing new practices, procedures and public-facing infrastructure, we took the opportunity to upgrade our kitchens and perform critical maintenance without interrupting operations.”

Fiesta de Reyes has been working with the 19 independently owned shops that are part of Fiesta de Reyes to ensure that, once the doors open, the environment in the entire plaza is clean and safe without sacrificing the experience of visiting the park.  Retailers will be implementing safe-distancing practices in their shops, along with increased ongoing sanitization practices, retrained staff and safe barriers around sales counters.  Each store will have a hand-sanitizer station outside its door for increased guest safety.

Live entertainment will once again grace the Fiesta de Reyes stage to serenade diners, shoppers and visitors with some of the same favorite entertainers as before the shutdown.  An updated entertainment schedule can be found on the Fiesta de Reyes website, fiestadereyes.com .

“We’re ready to welcome our guests back to the Fiesta de Reyes family.  We’ve done the work to create a safe and fun experience and, starting on Sunday, we’re all going to wake up into a new day,” Ross finished.

A great dining experience can be expected at Fiesta de Reyes in Old Town San Diego.
