Alta Vista Botanical Gardens (AVBG) is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, a milestone marking a quarter century of community engagement, environmental conservation, and cultural enrichment. To commemorate this landmark occasion, AVBG is hosting an evening Gala set against the enchanting backdrop of the garden’s lush landscapes from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, September 7 at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens’ Rose Garden, located at 1270 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista, CA 92084. The individual guest Gala ticket is $250. The After Party Only ticket (7:15 p.m. entry) is $80.

Since its inception, AVBG has provided North San Diego County with a sanctuary where nature and culture harmoniously blend. This Gala event celebrates the garden’s past achievements and aims to gather support for its future initiatives, ensuring it remains a vital part of the Vista community.

Alta Vista Botanical Gardens has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1999 when the Vista Botanical Garden Foundation was established. The roots of this botanical haven trace back to the old Smitgen property, a sprawling 14-acre site that was acquired by the City of Vista in 1990. This lush expanse was an integral part of the master plan crafted in 1970, envisioning a space where nature’s beauty could flourish.

In May of 1999, a group of dedicated individuals, including Founders Dr. M.E. Darian, Rocco Valluzzi, Larry Hoekstra, JoAnn Hoekstra, and Joe Lentz, joined hands to bring the vision to life. Their commitment and passion culminated in the creation of the Vista Botanical Garden Foundation, marking the beginning of a journey that has since blossomed into an integral part of the community.

Over the past two decades, AVBG has evolved into a sanctuary of tranquility and natural splendor. Visitors are greeted by a harmonious blend of flora, each corner thoughtfully designed to showcase the diversity of plant life. The gardens stand as a testament to the meticulous planning and unwavering dedication of those who envisioned and nurtured this botanical haven.

This year, AVBG has been nominated as a finalist for non-profit of the year by Heroes of Vista. This esteemed recognition is a testament to the positive impact AVBG has had on the community and its unwavering commitment to fostering a love for nature and environmental stewardship.

Located in the heart of Vista, California, Alta Vista Botanical Gardens has been at the forefront of promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement through the beauty of nature since its establishment in 1999. Spanning 14 lush acres, the Gardens offer a serene retreat where visitors can explore a diverse array of plant life and participate in educational programs. As a cherished community asset, AVBG continues to inspire and engage individuals from all walks of life to appreciate and care for our natural world. With a focus on sustainability, cultural enrichment, and conservation, Alta Vista Botanical Gardens remains dedicated to its mission of nurturing connections between people and plants, ensuring a greener future for generations to come.
