Dive into the Citrus Celebration at the 27th Annual Lemon Festival in Downtown Chula Vista
Once known as the lemon capital of the world, Downtown Chula Vista will celebrate its zesty roots with livemusic, delectable bites and sips, and more at this family and dog-friendly, lemon-filled fest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 17. Lemon lovers of San Diego are eagerly anticipating the return of this year’s 27th Annual Lemon Festival in downtown Chula Vista that takes place at Third Avenue. It will be filled with vibrant hues, enticing aromas, and tangy flavors of all thing’s lemon.
In a nod to the city’s citrus-filled heritage, this cherished event will transform Chula Vista’s iconic Third Avenue into a lemon paradise, promising a day brimming with lemon-themed bites and sips, two stages of live music, zesty photo opportunities with the beloved Tarty the Lemon, a lemon cook-off competition, arts and crafts vendors, and the Little Lemons kids’ area in Memorial Park.
In the early 1900s, Chula Vista as we know it was a completely different landscape. It was filled with lemon groves as far the eye could see, even holding the title of “Lemon Capital of the World” at one point in time. Although the lemon groves are no longer standing, community events like the Lemon Festival bring local businesses and residents of the South Bay neighborhood together to honor the city’s rich agricultural history.
In addition to the bites and sips, attendees can stroll through Third Avenue, exploring the various local vendors offering lemon-themed memorabilia. From lemon shaped earrings and necklaces from Brico Quest to crocheted lemon keychains from Happy Yoyo Studio, there are plenty of vendors offering keepsakes to commemorate an unforgettable day!
Throughout the fun-filled day, guests can enjoy performances and musical acts from local talent such as DJ Daycee One, Manzanitas Blues, Santana Soul, and Anthony Cullins Band at the Zesty Stage, found on 3rd and Park, as well as DJ Boogieman, Mariachi Dinastia, and Karlos Paez of B-Side Players at the Juicy Stage, found at 3rd and E St.
Don’t forget about the neighbors! Third Avenue restaurants and shops like Eazy Toyz will be open for business throughout the day for attendees to stop by, grab a bite or drink, and shop. A few will even have their own booths on the street for the event, so keep your eyes peeled and be sure to support local businesses.
