New Arts Center and Gallery Opens in Old Town

A newly transformed, 5,000-square-foot arts center, has officially opened in Old Town. Woodward Contemporary, located at 3935 Harney Street, is poised to become a beacon for artists and art lovers alike. With dynamic programming that includes monthly juried exhibitions, immersive workshops led by nationally recognized artist-instructors, and dedicated studio time for member artists, the venue offers a fresh and inclusive take on the traditional gallery model.

At the heart of the space is a 2,500-square-foot, street-level exhibition gallery, awash in natural light. Additional features include two spacious outdoor reception patios, nine fully equipped artist studios, a dedicated open-paint space, and convenient underground parking. With its thoughtfully designed layout, Woodward Contemporary is positioned as a destination where both emerging and established artists can connect, create, and grow.

“We created Woodward Contemporary as a true gathering place for San Diego’s arts community,” said Gigi Woodward, founder of Woodward Contemporary. “There are plenty of places to learn the fundamentals and take classes, but once an artist moves beyond the basics, there’s a real lack of spaces where they can connect, collaborate, and continue to grow. Art can be deeply solitary, and too many artists feel that isolation. We wanted to build something different — a nurturing, inspiring space where community thrives and creativity is shared. San Diego’s art scene is alive and evolving, and it deserves more venues where artists can truly come together and spark something new.”

The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Woodward Contemporary, located at 3935 Harney Street in Old Town, is housed in a meticulously restored Spanish Colonial Revival building.
