22nd Annual Mission Hills Garden Walk rescheduled for June 27

The 2020 Mission Hills Garden Walk, themed “Take Time to Look,” utilizes a phrase from Georgia O’Keefe to invite us to slow down to look at the beauty and details in our lives.  It takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 27.

Most of the 10 gardens included in this year’s walk have never been seen on a garden walk or home tour, and offer surprises and ideas for novice and experienced gardeners.  One multi-level garden accommodates children and adults with spaces for entertainment, games and quiet nooks.  Another has a traditional Japanese theme featuring antique stone sculptures and fountains.  Several of the gardens are slope or canyon gardens, and others effectively utilize small space.

The Garden Walk is designed to be a leisurely 2.5 mile stroll through Mission Hills, known for its variety of home and garden styles.  To assure safety at this time, participants will select a time slot for starting the walk, and the number of individuals in any one garden at a time will be limited.  Guests should plan to wear face masks and use social distancing.  All participants will pick up their map and wrist band at Mission Hills Nursery, 1525 Fort Stockton Dr., on the day of the walk at their selected start time.   Tickets can be purchased in advance ($30) at www.missionhillsgardenclub.org.

The Mission Hills Garden Club, established in 1997, is a non-profit, community service organization dedicated to educate, engage, beautify, and give back.  Proceeds from the annual Garden Walk support community improvement projects including the Gecko Garden at Grant Elementary School, restoration of Allen Canyon, plantings at Pioneer Park and Presidio Park, as well as scholarships to students studying agriculture and related fields.
