The Front Porch to Celebrate a Howling Good Halloween
Costume contests are as much a part of Halloween as jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating, and this year The Front Porch in Mission Hills is throwing a howler of a competition. On Friday morning, October 31, starting at 10:30 a.m., dogs of all shapes and sizes will gather with their owners for the first The Front Porch Halloween Doggie Costume Contest.
Prizes will be awarded for the most unique and creative canine costumes. First prize is a $100 gift certificate to The Front Porch. Second prize is a $75 gift certificate, with a $50 gift certificate awarded for third place.
The Front Porch, a unique gourmet specialty market and tasting room, was created by Baywatch actress Melissa Scott Clark and Gina Champion-Cain, who created the popular restaurant The Patio. The goal of the two entrepreneurs was to provide a distinctive selection of foods and spices, coffees and teas, wines, home and pet furniture and accessories, and a signature collection of gourmet foods. The Front Porch, which opened this past summer, is the first of six planned locations inspired by the successful Patio Restaurants.
All breeds are welcome to the Halloween Doggie Costume Contest, but pups must be in costume and accompanied by an owner or handler to compete. According to The Front Porch, humans need not be in costume. Because of the expected popularity of the event, only the first 20 dogs whose owners RSVP at 619-377-0430 will be entered.
