March was officially recognized as Development Disability Awareness Month in a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan in 1987. This annual celebration is an opportunity to remind the public of the contributions of people with disabilities, as well as spread awareness about the obstacles that remain in achieving inclusion.

The Arc of San Diego is the largest, most comprehensive service provider for people with disabilities in San Diego County, serving over 2,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome each year.
